KG Book Week

From March 11th - 15th KG learned all about the book 'The Very Hungry Caterpillar' by Eric Carle.  During this week KG listened to the story being read by the teacher and talked about caterpillars and butterflies.  Each pupil also had time to enjoy the book by themselves and to listen to it on CD in the reading corner.  We had a  delicious caterpillar party where we all got to taste the same food as the 'Very Hungry Caterpillar'.  Every day the children did activities related to the theme of the book.  For example, we learnt about symmetry and made butterflies by folding paper in half and using different coloured paint.  We talked about our favourite food from the book and drew it on paper plates that we then decorated.  And we made our own caterpillars using egg cartons.  First we counted the number of bumps it had, then we painted the egg cartons in different colours.  Afterwards we stuck sequins onto our caterpillars to make them look pretty.  KG put all of their artwork together to create a giant book 'The Very Hungry Caterpillar'.

On Friday the whole school got to dress-up as a favourite character from a book.  Laurent won the best dressed competition and KG won the best giant book award in the EY and KS1 department.  Well done KG for your big effort and creative work!!!
